Karlštejn, Little America, Big America

April 2014

The trip started early in the morning, around eight. Students gathered at Podebrady station, everyone got on the train. We needed to go to "Karlštejn" station, the journey lasted about two hours, with one transfer.

Arriving at the station, we needed to walk to the castle and climb a hill, so prepare in advance if you want to go

Standard view on the sides

The castle was visible, this was encouraging

Traditionally, there are very many restaurants, hotels along the way

Particular extremists, apparently, could climb the hill even on a bicycle

But dancing rumba (or what is it?) - not allowed

When we arrived, there was still time before the tour, we could walk around, look, fortunately - there's something to see

The castle itself is quite ordinary

The tour itself wasn't too long - less than an hour. Overall - nothing special, it's quite beautiful inside, but not more

Especially strange was to see a "translation forbidden" sign at the exit. Interesting, why?

Next it was decided to do hiking tourism - walk along a tourist hiking route to quarries nearby

When we climbed to the castle, we thought we were very tired, but we were very wrong - walking these routes was really hard. Looking ahead - we walked until evening, and returning home - no problems with insomnia.

The teacher, as you can see, always walked ahead. Stronger than students :)

Quarry Little America

Further, through forests, through fields.

Students, as you can see, are already seriously tired :)

Quarry Mexico

Further we reached quarry "Mexico". There it even seemed beautiful to me

I won't say I was scared, but at minimum, impressive!

Quarry Big America

Another kilometer on foot, along hills and crumbling sand - and we reached the final point - Big America!

There it's really beautiful, blue water makes a special impression. Views are just super

There we sat, rested, had a snack and went back. Yes, again, on foot, walked about an hour and a half. Reaching Karlstejn, we went into restaurant "Under the dragon's rock (Pod dračí skálou)", had lunch. Tasty, inexpensive, recommend. And finally, went back home by train. Arrived already in the evening, around 6-7

price

Overall - per person you can safely prepare 350-400 crowns, will be enough with reserve.

Tour duration: for the whole day. Leaving in the morning at 8, arrived somewhere around 7 PM

Karlstejn castle isn't the most interesting, won't see anything radically new there. But still - one of the most famous, so worth visiting.
Quarries - definitely worth seeing. Won't appeal only to those who completely don't like walking, the route is easy but long.

September 2021

In 7 years nothing changed, you still need to bring your girlfriends here for dates

True there are now fences around the quarries

And right at the quarries there's now civilization. A tent with hot dogs and, for some reason, a spontaneous parking lot with very many Ukrainians. I don't know why.
