Tábor

April 2017

This time the city of Tabor. About 100 km from Prague, so we went there by car, though by train it's also very easy to get there.

A bit of backstory. In Czechia, overall, everything's OK - castles, beer, life, klid-pohoda (Czech "klid, pohoda", tranquility and grace). One of the minuses locals themselves talk about is gypsies. In principle, I don't really care about them at all, but they say it's uncomfortable to be in cities where many of them live.

Well, I don't know, I never particularly worried. But somehow Tabor city I never got around to visiting - well, I thought, Tabor, probably gypsy. Bullshit, the city turned out excellent, don't fall for these linguistic tricks, basically.

Entering Tabor, immediately water is visible - one of my signs of a good city.

At first nothing surprising. Interesting sign - háček stands near d, usually should be an apostrophe. On the sign it's directly written: cyclist, get off your bike and carry it alongside (why, think for yourselves)

How much awaits us! (actually, not that much)

No sanctions here, already good

Here it's worth telling a bit what the city's generally known for. Long story short, Hussites hung out here. Well and Tabor translates as - camp. Everything's simple.

History in the city is visible to the naked eye.

Center looks quite standard.

Right-left quiet little streets.

Immediately catches the eye a feature of some houses - doors for gnomes (about a meter high). Later it'll be clear what they're for.

The very center.

I wanted to wander through the Hussite museum and through the underground. Tabor is very famous for its underground :)

Museum was about nothing, went down.

At the entrance they gave helmets to those who wanted.

From interesting - in the underground people lived for long periods, underground goes through the whole city. Here people lived, washed, cooked in hard times.

From problems - dampness and ventilation. Well and naturally, as on all the rest of the planet - there wasn't enough space for everyone, had to huddle (like in Moscow).

Also, perhaps, one interesting detail. Here they brewed beer, and it was so bad they named it "Tabor self-piss". Now, thank G-d, no one started to restore traditions. Though there's an opinion that self-piss recipes secretly penetrated Russia under the brand "Every Day"

Going to the street, underground - OK, but very quick tour, 100 crowns flew away.

On the street Czechs were celebrating a wedding

Pay attention - throwing rice, and on the guy hang all kinds of shackles, like got caught. Wedding traditions are good everywhere :)

Can also climb up and look at exhibits.

Nothing to look at at all :)

There I made an epic photo of myself for Instagram

I'll tell you how to start looking as wonderful in photos as I do. 1) find a cool place 2) imagine tomorrow you're releasing a new rap album 3) add some ??? 4) PROFIT!!! #modelbusiness

Going further, because ahead are other cities too (I love visiting 2-3 per day, so, maybe, I'll manage to visit everything :) )

Tabor is good, no matter how you look at it, wherever you go.

Attention to the doors. Through them you can enter the cellars :)

In Tabor you can photograph everything. City is very pleasant

Local business. Sell eggs. For hipsters - there are ones with two yolks.

Local transport - buses run. Ticket samples so you don't confuse anything.

Seems like, city like a city.

But no. As I already said, earlier in the city lived Hussites, and the most radical among them (they were even called "Taborites"). It would seem, what to expect from a city where once lived quite a militant people?

But Tabor's history, surprisingly, is quite well preserved. Buildings are being cleaned, history is treated carefully.

In the museum itself they do the same.

Cave painting (opening scene from Skyrim):

The city itself is very sweet when it comes to details:

In the city lives someone who decorates all the trash cans :)

There are imitators too

But this someone who loves details - is a beauty, of course

Every house, every door like this in the center

Since we went to Tabor in the morning, in the first city we always go to a cafe to drink coffee (in the second we have lunch)

Found a cafe specializing in hot chocolate.

Attention to the alarm clocks everywhere :)

Chocolate was poured into small cups, can't say it's something unusual :(

Attention to the walls

And under your feet

By the way, long wanted to tell about how Czechs remember where they've already been (after all, domestic tourism is quite developed here).

I write blogs. And they have a notebook where they put stamps, which are in almost every attraction.

We don't do this, but I always stick them on the ticket :)

Well and it was time for us to go further (guess where?)

Found when leaving a couple interesting signs :)
