Žátec

September 2015 and September 2017

Czechia is a beer country, so beer festivals happen here very often. I'll tell you about how a typical Czech beer fest goes using the example of the town of Zatec.

Photos will be a bit different because everything was shot on 3 different cameras in 2 different years. Sorry.

The town of Zatec is basically known to Russian speakers thanks to the beer Žatecký Gus, however this beer is the result of Russian marketers' work, i.e. it doesn't exist in Czechia, like the word "Gus" in general.

However all Czechs know about the town of Zatec - they grow the most famous hops in Czechia (and maybe in the world) there. That's precisely why for the second time we chose this town for visiting a beer festival, since there it's one of the biggest.

Everything in the town of Zatec speaks of beer and hops.

The annual festival itself is called "Dočesná"

The festival is large, lots of people, by midday - can't get through

They set up a stage, play concerts (pensioners perform, whose songs we listened to in courses in Podebrady :) )

At 10-11 AM it was like this here

Then it'll become like this:

The main theme of the festival is hops, naturally.

Everyone who wants gets branches.

Looks good on ladies

Different beers - about forty tents. If you remove the banal Budweisers, Pilsens, Holbas and other mass production - there still remain 20-30 good local (and not so) brewers.

Prices - within 30 crowns for 0.3, 45 crowns for 0.5. I recommend getting small ones, that way you'll try more.

This time I tried 3 different small ones, i.e. in total - a liter. Toilets - everywhere, but still many lines. There are very many people at the festival, among whom are many women and children, and lines for women's toilets are huge everywhere :)

By the way, though the fest is beer, there's very much food.

Sausages

Kebabs, corn

Hyperkebabs

Chinese noodles

Meat

And trdelnik for your dieting girlfriend

Lots of beer, tents are set up on two squares

This time they brought in very much cheese

I just got a snack, came out to about 55 crowns total. You pay depending on weight, the seller will ask "Like this okay?", and you're like "Yoo" (rus. "yeah"). Here it's a bit more than two hundred grams. Prices are godly (by the way, entry to the festival is absolutely free)

Naturally, since there are many people, for regular folks there's also entertainment like stupid rides

Or pull-up bars for making money off suckers (pay 100 crowns, hang on the bar for 2 minutes and get 1000 crowns). While I was there guys in 10 minutes earned 500 crowns, more than me with my fucking programming, by the way.

The town itself, by the way, is very cute, but beyond the center there's nothing interesting

First town that loves street signs as much as I do?

By the way, the festival is extremely popular among Germans and, attention, Japanese.

Who, by the way, also bring their beer (tasty) and sell it for funny prices (20 crowns for 0.3)

Since Russian-speaking tourists weren't spotted for the whole day, your task next September is to fix all this. Zatec is located an hour and a half's ride from Prague, so next September don't be stupid, because there you can see ordinary Czech life with beer, sausages and ordinary Czech proletariat.
