Plzeň

April 2015

I arrived in the city early in the morning from Prague. The first half of the day was occupied with a conference, then I went out for a walk. The university was located 5 minutes walk from the main square, so first I saw exactly that.

The square is quite wide, looks familiar for all Czech cities.

On the main square stood unidentified gilded statues, most likely resembling letters of the Greek alphabet.

Then I saw public transport. First of all, trams run through the city. In Prague public transport is painted red, here - predominantly yellow and green.

Tram models - both new and old. Pay attention - most often, there's only one tram track, in the other direction the track is located somewhere else.

A rare guest in Czech cities was spotted - a trolleybus.

In the center there were also taxis, but this, it seems to me, is the most unpopular type of transport in Czechia.

About what you can see in the city, usually signs will tell us.

On road signs a guy in a hat is often depicted, however passersby in hats are practically not seen here.

There are many religious buildings in the city.

Here is located the largest synagogue in Czechia (second in Europe, third in the world)

Can you read it?

The city has a beautiful green park, distantly reminiscent of the one in Podebrady.

There is work.

Cave painting

There are cheerful cafes. Food prices in the city are reasonable, slightly lower than in Prague, but the main advantage - beer is fresh almost everywhere, even though it's the quickly boring Pilsner Urquell and Gambrinus

A place with sand, whose purpose I never understood. But overall, doesn't spoil the view.

There's a bridge, on which were unclear balconies.

But, most likely, these are - places for statues.

The city streets - familiar Czech. The main difference for me seemed to be that the city at first glance - is very wide.

So as not to get bored, people try to decorate something on their own.

The university, by the way, was located in the center, but the buildings were scattered - you could navigate by signs like this

On this my walk through Plzen ended. I liked the city, definitely worth going once. I've already been here on an excursion to the brewery, however, didn't write an article about it - went in winter, photos are ugly. In summer, perhaps, I'll go again and write about it.

For those interested - from Prague you can get by bus for 100 crowns from the Zličin metro station, ride about 1 hour.
