"Digital Humanities" Course. What?

This course was again "block", I went to it 3 days in a row - Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Cool name, right? Actually, the course in English is called "Digital Humanities", and in it we learned everything, but mainly visualized all sorts of data.
By the way, the training itself also took place in English, many teachers at our department believe that teaching some subjects in Czech is not effective enough, and in principle I agree with them, because often the main part of information is only in English, and not knowing the terminology is quite difficult.

Insider information - probably the specialization I'm currently studying at will completely switch to teaching in English, so, gentlemen schoolchildren - get ready :)

So, what was in that course?

First we played with a program for text analysis (illegally analyzed all 7 volumes of Harry Potter 🙃). It's called Voyant Tools, you can play around sometime.
Then we played with other texts too (for example, tried to understand why Trump won by analyzing politicians' pages on Facebook).
Usually such beauty turned out :)

Then we played with a program that allows you to analyze a bunch of graphic files. So, for example, we analyzed Van Gogh's works:

Then we learned to put data on maps, i.e. use geotags. It was cool, for example, to analyze photos from Instagram by Donetsk geotag, where you could see fun selfies, and 100 meters away a smashed house. In general, the digital age in all its glory.

At the end we learned to work with the R language, and I liked this part the most. As I said earlier, we worked with ready-made software, and the downside was that we could only work with pre-installed functions, i.e. the possibilities were limited. But in R we could do whatever our hearts desired.

Did I like the course? Yes, so far it was one of the most fun. However, it seemed to me that 90% of the people who signed up for the course didn't understand anything at all (and it's understandable, after all it's the Faculty of Arts), so they just had to copy-paste, and you won't get much pleasure from that :(

PS after this course I got so inspired that I outplayed and destroyed Putin, proving (?) that his "live broadcast" is either not live or with prompters.
