So, after the enrollment procedure I officially became a student, but this is completely not enough even to just start studying.
For full-fledged study at any Czech university you need:
- make a student ID
- register in the electronic system
At Charles University both should be started in one and the same place - the ID issuing center. In this note I'll try to tell about everything a future student will encounter in terms of student IDs and data for accessing the information system.
The enrollment process ends with you giving all papers to the referents. In exchange they'll give you a very small paper - faculty coupon. Don't touch it yet, just don't lose it :)
Don't waste time and head to one of the ID issuing centers - from my experience I advise immediately going to the nearest law faculty building (at address nám. Curieových 7)
You need to find room 34 - it's located downstairs, left of the entrance.
Most likely, there won't be much of a queue. Even if there is - use this time, tidy yourself up, everything will happen quite quickly.
You need to decide in advance what type of student ID you'll have - ISIC (giving interesting discounts, but paid, 190 crowns per year) or free university student ID. I definitely vote for ISIC, because it's very likely these 190 crowns will pay off more than once a year.
I usually manage to do this by buying a ticket on Student Agency bus. In any case, familiarize yourself.
Next we need to enter the room, show grade book or passport. The woman will do all necessary actions and seat you on a chair to be photographed. I warn you right away, the photo will come out quite crooked, so don't even bother.
Literally in a minute you'll receive an already ready ISIC, case for it, advertising papers.
By the way, on ISIC there'll be a sticker pasted, on which it's written that it's invalid until you register on the website. Also don't forget to write your student number with a regular pen on the coupon too.
But then the most interesting comes - besides IDs you'll be given several more papers. One of them will be a receipt, we don't particularly need it.
But the second is very important.
On it will be written your username for logging into the information system, as well as the initial temporary password. The username will be your surname+first letter of name.
With this password you need to log in as soon as possible at https://ldap.cuni.cz and create your own permanent password. Attention, the temporary password is valid only 5 days, if you don't manage to use it - you'll have to go to the issuing center again.
And so, the password is created. Now you're already a full-fledged student - finally you'll have the opportunity to enter the information system and try it out - however don't rejoice so much, you'll be able to use it fully in about a week.
