Now studying new media

In summer 2016 I successfully passed exams and now became a student of the specialty "study of new media"

When I just arrived in Poděbrady, it wasn't clear to me where to apply - philology faculties in Russia and Czech Republic differ quite strongly. I had to orient myself on the spot, and I started doing this approximately in January-February, after I visited open days. I'll say honestly, I can't say that anything interested me really strongly, expectations were more than reality.

However already that year I was interested in 2 specialties: new media and cuneiform.
The first - because it was something between purely technical and purely humanities specialties (and I was looking for something similar). The second - because it seemed that this is something really difficult, which means the brain won't rot.

The only problem with new media was that there was huge (by philology faculty standards) competition - about 6 people per place.
It happened that I didn't even pass to the second round, scoring only 20 points out of 50 (needed to score minimally 25). With cuneiform it turned out simpler - needed to pass only an oral exam, which I successfully did.

new media 6 thousand years ago

Well, since there was no choice (the backup option was university in Brno, which took me without exams for general linguistics), I enrolled in cuneiform.
Studies there were very interesting and difficult, however after a year and a half my ass started itching, I simultaneously decided to change both work (wanted something new) and studies (wanted something more applicable in life).
Preparation I, of course, postponed closer to exams, which is exactly why in April (and exams were in May) I got sick and practically for a month lay in bed not getting up. Before exams only a couple of weeks remained, but this time I was ready: not only did I get quite a lot of experience at work, but also became the most famous blogger, which couldn't but help.

The written exam was tough, the most diverse students apply to new media, so tasks had to identify the most capable among both yesterday's ČVUT students and philology girls.

Perhaps it would have been unrealistic to enter right in the first year, and I understand this now, because many questions concerned exactly the online world of Czech Republic (from the category "Who said on Twitter: zítra asi něco koupím"?)

This time I passed the first round, and they were waiting for me for the second, oral. I was late for it, but sorted everything out clearly. For the oral round you needed to bring a thesis project, resume and list of read literature (and minimally 4 books should be from a pre-agreed list, and books about new media are quite boring stuff).

In general, I scored 69 (if you know what I mean) points in total and became 9th out of 25. There were 126 candidates in total, which means that I'm handsome and returned to myself the title of king.
There was no limit to joy (joking, such mini-victories no longer cause such delight, but still), so in September I enrolled, and today was already the first day of study.

The people studying there are the most diverse: someone is into game development, and someone is a marketer. I alone am not into anything, but very much hope. I met colleagues at an event dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the specialization, it was fun, we drank beer. I, apparently, am the only foreigner (not counting Slovaks, of course), but nobody gives a shit, no special honors.

In general, we'll see. And wait for the next arrivals.
