Vienna

December 2015

The first thing a tourist will see in any German-speaking country - people smoke like it's Yugoslavia

So ashtrays are well provided here

That year we came to Vienna by bus, the bus arrives not quite in the center, but you can walk. Classic European views around

I think this is some university campus, lovers of "modern" are drooling

"Rust-style"

"Wood-style"

Bus stop

Approaching the center, I remember feeling a bit uneasy because of the abundance of strange people (now I wouldn't even bat an eye)

Vienna will immediately please typography lovers

In fact, this is so far the only city whose typography has earned a separate article on the blog

The only downside of Vienna for tourists from Prague: there's nothing radically new here, Vienna and Prague were part of the same country for quite a long time

But then moved forward

You'll never see this kind of thing in Prague

Street signs

Geodesists are drooling (this is some kind of "reference point" or something like that)

Big impression of that day - newspapers in a bag that you can take by leaving one euro. People take them. In 2015, reading newspapers already seemed not just old, but downright archaic

Street signs in the center are "historical-style"

After a few hours you realize how much there is to see in Vienna

New Year's coming soon, in one place they scattered hay, people rummage in it, having fun

Mailbox

Vienna from a postcard

Looking at photos now, I realize that such a crowd of tourists wouldn't come to a bad city

Road repair warning

Metro

Old traffic light

Obviously, Vienna is one of the best cities in the world, returning here is pure pleasure

January 2018

This time I came for several days, and it still wasn't enough

Covered the whole center, specifically for me there's nothing surprising there

Except for "Kavkaz" signs and greetings from year '45

In the evening Vienna is good for everything except seeming less compact

Night stop designation

Tram

Best impression of that day - understanding the word "Willkommen" written in Russian keyboard layout below

Austria still smokes like a steam engine, only here can you imagine cigarette vending machines on the street

You can definitely live in Vienna

Wealth like in Versailles shouldn't embarrass you

In reality the city is still hipster, there are poor people here

It's customary to hang doorbells with names, same in Czechia

Night pharmacy flickers

No idea what this is, asked on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/wien/comments/yfjrh7/what_are_attensam_nfc_on_the_walls_in_vienna/

Didn't really like evening Vienna, cold

People are skating even though the temperature is above zero

District with a market where you can traditionally buy kebab

District where you can buy a sparkly dress

Metro and art

Somewhere around here I lived, such districts are everywhere

Reached some ass-end of the world

Didn't appreciate it, too wide spaces

District I called "Turkish" because there's kebabs and barbershops on every step

There's beauty even there

As well as normal housing. Vienna is one of the best cities in terms of housing affordability

Exemplary maintenance house? :)

You can take photos in the library

I also have lots of books at home that I'll never read

But here they treat Cyrillic with love

Conclusion - Vienna is good!
