July 2025
This city was visited as part of an expedition to see various old European prisons
The following cities were visited:
London, Reading, Milan, Padua, Venice, Udine, Sagrado, Gorizia, Nova Gorica, Brno
I basically had no particular opinion about Venice: they say it stinks and there are lots of tourists. Doesn't stink, but tourists - shitloads, reason being - like Paris, it's - the only European city they've heard about in third world countries like USA and China.
What really pissed me off, on the train about 5 minutes before arrival they tell you in Italian that entrance to the city is paid. No joke, arrived = pay. And the ticket costs more if you didn't buy it in advance. We were lucky - on a weekday didn't need to. But che cazzo, still.

Actually, Venice is pretty cool

Everything as you'd expect

Boat-things

Water-stuff

Statue-things

Square-stuff

Museum-things

Market-stuff

Alley-things

Turtles on each other - main impression of the day

Actually, Venice surprisingly worked for me. How easy to impress me when there are no cars around

Can send a complaint

Gondolas are expensive, but looks, overall, fine

Lots of people

Girls photograph themselves, boys - a duck. Can't put into words how much people photograph themselves there (and I - them)

Towards evening the city is especially cozy

On the walls they don't like Bezos, future generations can google why

And Venice can absolutely calmly be recommended to everyone
